start with why

why why why

But why?

Once again, we think of the child asking, "why?"  If the why is about the shape and delight of the clouds, may we be so lucky to have the luxury of that moment of innocence and safety to explore the answer together. If the why is about a habit of asking why ask children learn their right to inquire, we are to get past our frustration and convert the moment into something formative.

Why does the child love to ask questions, ask why?  Why does this instinct, if not impulse, so utterly wane as we age?   Well, childhood is full of wonder.

I start by the abstract and commit to making it simple -- are you able to answer the question why when asked what has meaning for you?  Are you able to ask another how it is with their suffering?  How is it, why is it, that with all of their pain they are able to get up each day?

Simon Sinek gave WHY a big come-back in his 2009 Ted Talk

The world's simplest idea, the golden circle.  Why some leaders are able to inspire while others don't.  Over 25 million of us  have watched Sinek's piece with some sound byte as to what it was about.  Have we all "gotten" it?  The questions he reminds us of are like, "why do you get out of bed in the morning?  why do you care?"  BIG question.  Can we answer?  Do we answer?

GOT ANY RESOURCES?

Games?  activities?  exercises?  poetry?  What is the sacred text of your understanding as the reason for all being?

5 Whys

The practice of asking Five Whys  can be explored in play and in deep purpose.  If we are ever asked the reason why...we serve...we love...we watch baseball...we live how we live...the first answer is just the tip of the story of our longing.
